MINNIE RIPERTON – ADVENTURES IN PARADISE (CD cover)

Sun at 26 Cancer
Mercury DIRECT at 26 Cancer
Venus at 0 Cancer
Mars at 9 Taurus
Jupiter at 9 Aries
Saturn RETROGRADE at 23 Aquarius (rulership)
Neptune RETROGRADE 25 Pisces (rulership)
Pluto RETROGRADE at 27 Capricorn
North Node at 20 Taurus

The Sun moves through the last degrees of Cancer this week, and we wrap up our deep emotional reflections from the past month. It’s the 4th quarter of the Moon, the “darkest” time of the lunar month. We rest and wrap things up in preparation for the rebirth of the New Moon in Leo next Thursday, July 28th. If you go out at sunset this week, you will see the moon’s light diminish until she completely disappears into the fires of the Sun. Don’t over schedule yourself or work too hard. Take some afternoon naps like Leo the Lion. Focus on finishing things – next week is the time to start new projects or habits.

This Friday, the Sun moves into its natural home of LEO! For the next month the focus turns to creative play. Leo is a time to celebrate what it means to be alive. It represents self expression, hosting parties, and making your art. Leo wants to shine its light outwardly and share it.

Venus has entered sensitive Cancer today (Sunday), bringing a need for emotional connection and sensitivity in relationships and art. Mercury is zooming through the last degrees of Cancer, and enters Leo early Tuesday morning. This will be a great change for all of us. Our minds have been water logged with Cancerian feelings, sensitivities and insecurities. In Leo, Mercury is birthed from the Cancerian womb, becomes the Child, clears his head and fully expresses himself!

Wednesday, July 20th: Moon in Aries enters her 4th quarter today, then moves into Taurus at 11:23am Pacific. We are in the dark of the Moon and it’s officially time to rest and look within. A Taurus Moon is exalted, and great strides can be made with expressing emotions. No other aspects today, although the Sun opposing Pluto is still in effect.

Week of July 11th: Full Moon in Capricorn

Sun at 22 Cancer
Mercury DIRECT at 11 Cancer
Venus at 21 Gemini
Mars at 4 Taurus
Jupiter at 8 Aries
Saturn RETROGRADE at 24 Aquarius (rulership)
Neptune RETROGRADE 25 Pisces (rulership)
Pluto RETROGRADE at 27 Capricorn
North Node at 20 Taurus

This week is kinda tough because its impacted by Saturn and Pluto, the two planets that gave rise to the pandemic. These two don’t fool around – they demand we connect with truth, reality and our shadow sides. What’s the reality of your life, and what needs tending to? Is something blocking you from moving forward?

The week culminates with an earthy, Saturnian Capricorn Full Moon on Wednesday. It will be near Pluto, which has us drill down and get honest about our lives. If it sounds heavy, it is. Capricorn is a heavy sign, and there’s no goofing off. Saturn demands hard work in order to earn rewards. This is the fruition of what’s been building this month, and it engages Pluto: the planet of shadow and transformation. We each end the week in a different place than where we started. The energies of this Full Moon will unfold over the week ahead as well as the next six months. We will have peak experiences with our ambitions, career, and personal story.

Wednesday, July 13th: Full Moon in Capricorn at 11:38am. The Moon goes void-of-course at 6:17pm Pacific. The void Moon plus the heavy Saturn energy means it’s not a good night to go out and socialize. The Moon is in her detriment here – uncomfortable, heavy, and unable to express herself. Authorities will be rigid and uncaring. Energy is hard to get off the ground, control issues arise along with power struggles.

Mercury in Cancer sextiles Uranus in Taurus around 5:15pm, which can fire up our intellect AND bring surprises. Try new approaches to earthly matters, especially at work. Life starts feeling different.

Venus square Neptune at 10:24pm Pacific means avoid over indulging in addictive behaviors! It can cause relationship troubles. Instead, put that passion into creating something artistic, challenging, and beautiful.

Sun at 13 Cancer
Mercury DIRECT at 29 Gemini
Venus at 13 Gemini
Mars at 0 Taurus
Jupiter at 7 Aries
Saturn RETROGRADE at 24 Aquarius (rulership)
Neptune at 25 Pisces (rulership)
Pluto RETROGRADE at 27 Capricorn
North Node at 21 Taurus

This week the Moon is waxing (growing bigger). We had a New Moon in Cancer last week, which is the Moon’s natural home, and one of the most personal signs of the zodiac. Cancer symbolizes our deep, emotional, inner worlds – the parts we don’t let everyone see – along with our homes and security. The focus is on our personal circumstances, emotional needs and true feelings. The sign of Cancer is created from the primordial waters that gestate and nurture new life, and healing the inner child is paramount.

The New Moon last Tuesday is really powerful BECAUSE it’s so personal. This is our roots, where we come from, our relationships with our mothers, our genes, DNA, psychological traumas, etc. It’s our annual chance to start anew with healing ourselves and refreshing the foundation of our lives BASED on this self healing. When we do this healing, we’re able to let more love and friendship into our lives. More reality. We become happier and deeply fulfilled. It’s a really big deal. Also, look at where you’ve taken on the attitudes and opinions of people around you – sometimes without being aware of where the feelings are coming from.

Thursday, July 7th: Moon in Libra goes void at 6:00pm Pacific, then trines Saturn and squares Pluto. These aspects can bring an edge to yesterday’s developments. The best way through it, is to focus, concentrate, and work hard. Also take an objective view of your evolution and see if there’s a more efficient path.

Eat Turmeric

Original Article: http://www.realfarmacy.com/turmeric-dose/

Turmeric Tea

Turmeric tea is a great compromise between to trying to get enough turmeric into your daily diet and taking supplements.

Boiling turmeric in water for 10 minutes increases the solubility of curcumin up to 12 times. (32)

The people of Okinawa, Japan are the longest-lived in the world, with an average life span of 81.2 years.

And they drink large amounts of turmeric tea. (33)

To make basic turmeric tea, put 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder in 1 cup of water and simmer for 10 minutes.

Strain if needed and serve.

If you actually enjoy it, you’re in luck because not everyone is crazy about it.

It’s very bitter and medicinal-tasting.

I’ve been experimenting to find a recipe that’s both healthy and delicious.

This recipe is tasty and assures maximum bioavailability by both heating and adding coconut oil, a top brain-healthy fat.

Liquid Gold Turmeric Tea

1/2 cup water

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/2 cup coconut milk

1 tablespoon coconut oil

Honey or stevia to taste

Bring water to a boil. Add turmeric powder and simmer gently for 10 minutes.

Add coconut milk and coconut oil. Heat until warmed through.

Sweeten with honey or stevia to taste.

Feel free to experiment with the ingredients and proportions to create the brew that is just right for you.

You can substitute almond milk or regular milk for coconut milk, as long as it contains some fat.

Ghee, traditional clarified Indian butter, works great instead of coconut oil and adds a rich buttery flavor.

Turmeric Dosage

Most of us in Western countries are familiar only with the turmeric found in the dried spice section at the grocery store.

But you can buy turmeric root in some produce sections — it looks a lot like ginger, a plant cousin that’s another source of curcumin.

According to the University of Maryland’s Complementary and Alternative Medicine Guide, here are suggested turmeric dosages for adults:

Cut root: 1.5-3 grams per day

Dried, powdered root: 1-3 grams per day

Fluid extract (1:1): 30-90 drops per day

Tincture (1:2): 15-30 drops, 4 times per day

Their recommended curcumin dosage for a standardized powder supplement is 400-600 mg, 3 times per day.

Look for products standardized for 95% curcuminoids that also contain piperine or black pepper extract.

When unsure, follow the dosage instructions on labels. (34)

Turmeric Supplement Side Effects

Turmeric consumed as a spice in food is considered safe.

There are almost no known turmeric side effects except for an increased risk of kidney stones in those susceptible. (35)

But I was somewhat surprised to learn that turmeric supplements carry a large number of possible side effects, interactions, and warnings.

Week of June 27th: New Moon in Cancer

Sun at 8 Cancer
Mercury DIRECT at 14 Gemini
Venus at 3 Gemini (rulership)
Mars at 23 Aries (rulership)
Jupiter at 7 Aries
Saturn RETROGRADE at 24 Aquarius (rulership)
Neptune at 25 Pisces (rulership)
Pluto RETROGRADE at 27 Capricorn
North Node at 21 Taurus

We begin this week on the cusp of a New Moon at 7 Cancer on Tuesday. The eclipses are behind us, and it’s interesting to notice where our lives and attitudes have changed over the Spring. We have an opportunity to release things that don’t fit into our new, emotional way of being (i.e. Sun in Cancer) right now. The New Moon in Cancer is the sweetest, most sensitive moon of the year, however this one is exactly conjunct Black Moon Lilith, so there’s an edge of assertiveness, power, and demand of equality.

Neptune stations retrograde in the middle of the night on Monday/Tuesday, enhancing the watery, intuitive, fertile nature of the New Moon. Neptune can add confusion, a sense of the surreal, wild dreams, and a desire to escape your life. You have to walk through it, just surrender to any feelings coming up this week. Neptune also rules propaganda and fantasies, so don’t believe everything you see or hear.

The last time Neptune was in this part of the sky was 1865. Think of everything that has happened since then! We had The Civil War, which is scary considering how divided our country is nowadays. Slavery was outlawed, although we still haven’t achieved true equality. Theosophy and Western Hermeticism came into existence. The art world exploded with the groundbreaking talents of Picasso, van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, and Gauguin. We had the birth of psychology with Freud and Jung. Plus the domination of photography, television, cinema, technology and the internet. Fascinating to think what might be ahead of us.

Also this week, Mars in Aries is marching resolutely to his square with Pluto in Capricorn on Friday. This is a tense and volatile aspect that brings aggression and violence. It raises anger, and brings drama, struggles with authority, and ego battles. There’s an urgent need for change. If we’ve been stuck in power struggles with someone, it is plainly obvious this week. This can cause more flare ups between people in our divided world, so be careful out there.

Tuesday, June 28th: Moon in Cancer, New Moon at 7:52pm Pacific. Neptune in Pisces stations retrograde at 1:00am, adding to the watery, creative atmosphere. The tarot card for today is the Ace of Cups; we are emotionally reborn. Visit a pool, lake, river, or ocean. The imagination can be stronger than usual with this new moon. Creativity is heightened, and artists and musicians have breakthroughs. Time to start new projects! With the sensitive Cancer Moon, choose your words wisely. Celebrate your home life, animals, and your “new” chosen family of friends.

Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice is a Holy Day in Magickal traditions, and it starts at Sunset the night before. So tonight at twilight, think about what you’d like to happen in your life this summer, and start a candle.

Right now, the North pole is maximally tilted (23.44°) toward the Sun, ergo the Sun will reach its highest declination from the perspective of the Northern Hemisphere and we will consequently experience the longest exposure to its light (14.25 hrs of daylight in Los Angeles; 15.05 hrs in NYC).

More properly called the Estival Solstice (estival, from the Latin æstus, meaning “heat”; solstice, from the Latin sol, meaning “Sun” and sistere, meaning “to stand still”), this terrestrially-significant astronomical event is celebrated by feasts, festivals, rituals and holidays the world over.

Father’s Day with no Dad

Sharing an excellent post from Will Wheaton today. He grew up, as I did, in a dysfunctional home, and presents some strong insights in this article:
No Child Deserves to be treated the way the man who was my father treated me

“I wrote this two years ago, and a lot of my fellow survivors said it was helpful to them, so I reposted it last year. I heard the same thing, so I’m reposting it this year.

To all my fellow children of shitty fathers, I see you, I love you, and I’m so sorry we’re in this club we don’t want to be in.

“Today is hard for me. I see pretty much everyone I know celebrating their awesome dads, who loved them unconditionally, the way a child deserves to be loved. I see them sharing memories of time spent with their dad, which I never got, because the man who was my father never made the effort. I’m doing my best to focus on how happy my friends are, and how lucky their children are, but it’s really hard for me to do that without feeling the massive black void where my father’s love and affection should be.

“I want today to be a reminder of all the joy my own kids have brought me. I want to celebrate my own existence as a dad, to stand up and say that I did the work, I broke the cycle. I am not the selfish bully I had the misfortune of being born to. I’m a good man, and a good father. I love my sons, and we have a close and loving relationship. We don’t need a Hallmark holiday to celebrate and acknowledge the love we share, and my wife and kids know what a bastard my father was, so they’ve never imposed a celebration on me. But it still feels good when my boys call me their dad, and it still feels good when they tell me they love me. Being their dad is such a privilege, and I choose, every day, to be grateful for it.

“Today, I’m going to make a deliberate choice to focus on my own children, my own experiences being the dad I never had, and I’m going to give a very special shoutout to my fellow children of bastards, who have the same complicated relationship with fatherhood that I have. This is a tough day for us, and if you grok what I’m saying, I’m so sorry. I see you, and I know.”

the real meaning of “Virgin”

Meeting the Ancestors at Avebury (1993) by
Monica Sjoo

Ancient moon priestesses were called virgins. ‘Virgin’ meant not married, not belonging to a man. A woman who was ‘one-in-herself’. The very word derives from a Latin root meaning strength, force, skill; and was later applied to men with the word “virile”. Ishtar, Diana, Astarte, Isis were all all called virgin, which did not refer to sexual chastity, but sexual independence.

And all great culture heroes of the past…, mythic or historic, were said to be born of virgin mothers: Marduk, Gilgamesh, Buddha, Osiris, Dionysus, Genghis Khan, Jesus – they were all affirmed as sons of the Great Mother, of the Original One, their worldly power deriving from her. When the Hebrews used the word, and in the original Aramaic, it meant ‘maiden’ or ‘young woman’, with no connotations to sexual chastity.

But later Christian translators could not conceive of the ‘Virgin Mary’ as a woman of independent sexuality, needless to say; they distorted the meaning into sexually pure, chaste, never touched. When Joan of Arc, with her witch coven associations, was called La Pucelle – ‘the Maiden,’ ‘the Virgin’ – the word retained some of its original pagan sense of a strong and independent woman. The Moon Goddess was worshipped in orgiastic rites, being the divinity of matriarchal women free to take as many lovers as they choose. Women could ‘surrender’ themselves to the Goddess by making love to a stranger in her temple.
