The Summer Solstice is a Holy Day in Magickal traditions, and it starts at Sunset the night before. So tonight at twilight, think about what you’d like to happen in your life this summer, and start a candle.
Right now, the North pole is maximally tilted (23.44°) toward the Sun, ergo the Sun will reach its highest declination from the perspective of the Northern Hemisphere and we will consequently experience the longest exposure to its light (14.25 hrs of daylight in Los Angeles; 15.05 hrs in NYC).
More properly called the Estival Solstice (estival, from the Latin æstus, meaning “heat”; solstice, from the Latin sol, meaning “Sun” and sistere, meaning “to stand still”), this terrestrially-significant astronomical event is celebrated by feasts, festivals, rituals and holidays the world over.
“I wrote this two years ago, and a lot of my fellow survivors said it was helpful to them, so I reposted it last year. I heard the same thing, so I’m reposting it this year.
To all my fellow children of shitty fathers, I see you, I love you, and I’m so sorry we’re in this club we don’t want to be in.
“Today is hard for me. I see pretty much everyone I know celebrating their awesome dads, who loved them unconditionally, the way a child deserves to be loved. I see them sharing memories of time spent with their dad, which I never got, because the man who was my father never made the effort. I’m doing my best to focus on how happy my friends are, and how lucky their children are, but it’s really hard for me to do that without feeling the massive black void where my father’s love and affection should be.
“I want today to be a reminder of all the joy my own kids have brought me. I want to celebrate my own existence as a dad, to stand up and say that I did the work, I broke the cycle. I am not the selfish bully I had the misfortune of being born to. I’m a good man, and a good father. I love my sons, and we have a close and loving relationship. We don’t need a Hallmark holiday to celebrate and acknowledge the love we share, and my wife and kids know what a bastard my father was, so they’ve never imposed a celebration on me. But it still feels good when my boys call me their dad, and it still feels good when they tell me they love me. Being their dad is such a privilege, and I choose, every day, to be grateful for it.
“Today, I’m going to make a deliberate choice to focus on my own children, my own experiences being the dad I never had, and I’m going to give a very special shoutout to my fellow children of bastards, who have the same complicated relationship with fatherhood that I have. This is a tough day for us, and if you grok what I’m saying, I’m so sorry. I see you, and I know.”

Ancient moon priestesses were called virgins. ‘Virgin’ meant not married, not belonging to a man. A woman who was ‘one-in-herself’. The very word derives from a Latin root meaning strength, force, skill; and was later applied to men with the word “virile”. Ishtar, Diana, Astarte, Isis were all all called virgin, which did not refer to sexual chastity, but sexual independence.
And all great culture heroes of the past…, mythic or historic, were said to be born of virgin mothers: Marduk, Gilgamesh, Buddha, Osiris, Dionysus, Genghis Khan, Jesus – they were all affirmed as sons of the Great Mother, of the Original One, their worldly power deriving from her. When the Hebrews used the word, and in the original Aramaic, it meant ‘maiden’ or ‘young woman’, with no connotations to sexual chastity.
But later Christian translators could not conceive of the ‘Virgin Mary’ as a woman of independent sexuality, needless to say; they distorted the meaning into sexually pure, chaste, never touched. When Joan of Arc, with her witch coven associations, was called La Pucelle – ‘the Maiden,’ ‘the Virgin’ – the word retained some of its original pagan sense of a strong and independent woman. The Moon Goddess was worshipped in orgiastic rites, being the divinity of matriarchal women free to take as many lovers as they choose. Women could ‘surrender’ themselves to the Goddess by making love to a stranger in her temple.

It’s a week of examining our beliefs and inner truths. The Full Moon rises on Tuesday at 25 Sagittarius, and there’s a strong urge to have a better life. This Full Moon sheds light on the inner truths we cling to, illuminating their practicality. Perhaps it’s time to update how we view the world. Reconnect with the Soul, and update the story of your life. Sagittarius is optimistic, and wants to explore, expand, philosophize, and tell the truth.
Wednesday, June 15th: The Moon in Capricorn (Binah) helps bring a new understanding. Also, Mars conjunct Chiron is exact which energizes self healing and self assurance. Issues with men and healing could arise.
“…adventure, love, prosperity, prestige…anything we aspire to at all…is really just the currency we use to buy the four things that really matter:
Dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins.
Realizing that even that kiss that melts your heart… only melts it because those four fairy godmothers waved their magic wands and turned your brain into a freakin princess.
But if our brain hits us with a really shitty exchange rate, if suddenly winning that Academy Award only buys us a day’s ration of serotonin, then how the hell are we supposed to stock up for our whole lives?
What can I do to get more joy out of everything I’m presented with, big or small?
How does anyone do that?
I guess there begins one’s lifelong quest for God, psychedelic drugs, transcendental meditation, or whatever the hell else you need to do to bring true value to the external pleasures of the world.
Anything that promises, not pleasure, but perspective.
There’s a good case to be made that those are the things worth seeking first, before even love and success.
Because watching my little boy flood his brain with happiness because he found a cool stick on the lawn is all the evidence I need that “how you experience” is so much more important than “what you experience.”
– excerpted from a really great 3 minute read, here:
Shower. Not a bath, a shower. Use water as hot or cold as you like. You don’t even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you gotta.
Moisturize everything. Use whatever lotion you like.
Put on clean, comfortable clothes.
Drink cold water. Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
Clean something. Doesn’t have to be anything big. Organize one drawer of a desk. Wash five dirty dishes. Do a load of laundry. Scrub the bathroom sink.
Blast music. Listen to something upbeat and dancy and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
Make food. Don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. Take the time and make food. Even if it’s ramen. Add something special to it, like a soft boiled egg or some veggies. Prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
Make something. Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it. Create.
Go outside. Take a walk. Sit in the grass. Look at the clouds. Smell flowers. Put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
Call someone. Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. If you can’t bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you don’t say much, listen to them. It helps.
One more thing. If you can, go look in mirror and smile.
May seem small or silly to some, but this list keeps people alive.
* At your absolute best you won’t be good enough for the wrong people. But at your worst, you’ll still be worth it to the right ones. Remember that. Keep holding on.
* In case nobody has told you today, you are worth your weight in gold, so be kind to yourself and most of all keep pushing on!!!!

This week the Moon is waxing (growing bigger) each day, building up to a Full Moon in Sagittarius next Tuesday, June 14th. The Sun moves through the last degrees of Gemini, entering Cancer on the SUMMER SOLSTICE, Tuesday, June 21st.
Saturn (discipline, responsibility) hangs over this week. The planet of Karma is stopped in the sky since turning retrograde yesterday, June 4th. This brings added gravity to the week ahead. This planet grinds us down, turns us into something useful, and makes us take care of things we’ve been avoiding. Between now and October, Saturn is asking you to reflect on the structures and limitations of your life – are they serving you? What changes can you make, especially regarding your future (Saturn in Aquarius)?
Saturn represents our stability, and brings up themes around structure, time, karma, and authority. Saturn rules Aquarius, so this retrograde brings up battles between progressive and traditional elements. Aquarius represents our need to evolve on both a collective and personal level. Focus on solidifying the foundations of your life; it’s the perfect time to question your way of living and working.
Monday, June 6th: Moon in Virgo trines Venus and Mars bringing harmony between the sexes. This is a great way to start the week. We are feeling kind, loving, and inspired. Virgo Moon means organize, exercise and clear the clutter.
Tuesday, June 7th: Moon in Virgo enters her 2nd quarter. No major aspects, just the Moon squaring the Sun, and then trining Uranus over in Taurus. This can bring volatility in the stock market and surprises (good ones) at work. The house cleaning continues… there’s some big aspects coming in a few days, so don’t let the heavy Saturn energy weigh you down.
Wednesday, June 8th: Moon in Libra brings the balance today. Hopefully we’re feeling more centered after the Moon in Virgo/Saturn station vibe of the last two days. The Libra Moon opposes Jupiter and Mars in Aries, so watch for an upsurge in emotion that could bring conflict with people around you. Most of us want to connect with like-minded friends.
Thursday, June 9th: Moon in Libra trines the Sun today. Good for communication, traveling and negotiating. Gemini season is the month to talk, write, play, socialize and travel. If you have studies or writing to do, now is the time! There’s electricity in the air for the next few days.
Friday, June 10th: Moon goes void in Libra at 10:36am, then into Scorpio at 3:41pm Pacific. The Scorpio Moon adds a serious edge to the evening. Be aware of your surroundings and stay safe. Venus is already in a conjunction with Uranus, which brings unexpected, shocking events to social situations, and the Moon is unable to express herself in Scorpio. Emotions could be bottled up and explode. On top of that, Mercury trines Pluto at 2:21 pm. This can bring transformative conversations to relationships.
Saturday, June 11th: Moon in Scorpio, and Venus conjuncts Uranus in Taurus at 3:58pm. You might hear from people you haven’t spoken to in a long time. This aspect is also great for accessing artistic genius and revolutionary creativity. Focus on people and situations that inspire you, but watch for sudden changes in moods too.
Sunday, June 12th: Moon in Scorpio moves into Sagittarius at 3:30pm Pacific. The mood is much lighter today, and we explore adventures and fun. We are also under the influence of the Full Moon coming Tuesday, which will shift our inner truths and life perspective.

We begin this week with a New Moon at 10 Gemini on Monday! Watch for the dawn, and a beautiful sunrise. Every New Moon is a new beginning, and this one brings a change in attitude. The urge to get out and socialize will be strong, but a square with Saturn asks us to keep our boundaries and practice self discipline too. This New Moon is great for activities requiring mental fortitude – studying, analysis, meditation and organization are all highlighted this week. Focus on simplifying your life.
Mercury has stopped still in the skies, preparing to go Direct on Friday, while Saturn has also stopped still, preparing to go retrograde on Saturday. They are also in a square for the next two weeks. At the same time, Retrograde Mercury is trining Pluto, so there’s a serious and transformational vibe. There could be struggles, tests, limitations, and issues with timing, especially around communication. Be thoughtful and speak sincerely.
Pluto will move into Aquarius on March 23, 2023, so this is the last year of Pluto in Capricorn! It will go back into Capricorn until Nov 19, 2024 when it will spend over a decade in Aquarius. My hope is that the themes of Aquarius – humanity, liberation, genius and forward thinking – will make a positive change with the problems in our society.
Monday, May 30th: New Moon at 10 Gemini in the pre dawn hours brings new options into our live. We are drawn to sociability, sharing and TALKING, however Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, is currently retrograde. We are redoing things, renegotiating agreements. The truth could come out today.
Tuesday, May 31st: Moon in Gemini goes void-of-course at 1:10pm Pacific for the rest of the day, so do important stuff in the morning. Moon trines Saturn in the evening which can bring heavy conversations. We have no problem working hard on projects that require mental effort.
Wednesday, June 1st: Moon in Cancer conjuncts Black Moon Lilith, so solitude is favored. Take time out today and focus on nurturing yourself. Your needs come first.
Thursday, June 2nd: Moon in Cancer on a Thursday is auspicious! There are no other aspects, and it’s a quiet day with the lovely Cancerian energy. Home life and domestic activities are the best use of this Moon, and with Mercury and Saturn stationing, organization gets a boost.
Friday, June 3rd: Moon Cancer moves into Leo at 11:38am, and everyone wants the limelight. Give yourself some love. When the Moon moves from Cancer to Leo, egos can be VERY sensitive, so step carefully around people’s feelings today. Mercury goes Direct at 26 Taurus early in the morning, but will take several days to pick up speed. Living in the present, in a mindful way, is the best way forward.
Saturday, June 4th: Moon in Leo opposes Saturn, and emotions might get heavy. Saturn turns stationary retrograde in the middle of the night. Things can appear unstable, but don’t worry just take action on what you have control over. We are going back over ground we’ve already covered, so it’s an opportunity to recheck your foundation and steps.
Sunday, June 5th: Moon in Leo goes void at 4:12pm Pacific, and opposes Saturn in the evening. This can exacerbate the issues of this week. No other aspects. It’s a great evening to see performances, attend parties or art gatherings.
The Lovers card of the tarot is the card of Gemini. Artist unknown.

We have a New Moon at 9 Gemini coming next Monday, May 30th, so THIS week is about finishing things. We are in the darkest phase of the monthly moon cycle, so rest this week, wrap stuff up, pay off debts, and clear your life of stagnant energy. The Sun has left the earthy pastures of Taurus, and is now traveling through the early degrees of Gemini, the social butterfly.
Meanwhile, Saturn has ground to a halt, preparing to turn retrograde on June 4th. Mercury retrograde has just fallen backwards into Taurus, so we are going over old ground until June 3rd when Mercury goes Direct. With Mercury retrograde in Taurus, the volatility of the stock market will continue. It’s a good time to review values and investments.
This is Gemini season, so take some time to reflect on how you’d like the upcoming Moon cycle to go. If you need a personal reading on how this Gemini cycle will affect you, book a short reading with me here for $45.
Monday, May 23rd: Moon in Pisces blends with the lovely Moon energy of Monday… do Magick involving emotions, art, music, and women’s issues. Have some solitude today and reflect on things. Daydreams, music and movies are always highlighted with a Pisces Moon. Eat something sweet and let yourself be creative. Sun sextiles Jupiter which lifts our mood, and Mercury retrograde sextiles Mars which activates our minds.
Tuesday, May 24th: Moon in Pisces moves into Aries at 2:39pm Pacific. Then, MARS enters his homeland of Aries at 4:17pm Pacific, which supercharges our libidos, egos and ambitions. Mars has been languishing in Pisces since mid April, so moving into Aries is a huge, positive fresh start – particularly for men. It’s further inflated by the approaching conjunction between Mars and Jupiter on Sunday. Unfortunately the conflicts in the world could also get more heated and angry. Pursue actions that require courage. Venus sextile Saturn today brings good interactions with authority figures.
Wednesday, May 25th: Moon in Aries with Saturn standing still overhead brings egos and ambitions to the forefront. Be mentally alert and avoid temperamental people. Mercury retrograde in Taurus trines Pluto too, so communicating can clear the air. There are no trivial, light conversations with this aspect. Avoid headstrong, “fuck it” kinds of attitudes. There could be control issues or power struggles with others, especially online.
Thursday, May 26th: Moon in Aries goes void at 8:20pm Pacific, so make it an early night. The Moon and Venus both square Pluto today, which means we (particularly women) have emotional work to do. Power plays and control issues abound. Focus on healing and reformation.
Friday, May 27th: Moon in Taurus, on a Friday (day of Venus) makes for a perfect date night. Venus is about to enter her home kingdom of Taurus tomorrow, so there could be sparks flying today. Her square with Pluto yesterday is still in effect too, so prepare for healing, reconciliation with the past and soul retrieval.
Saturday, May 28th: Venus returns home to the sign of Taurus in the early morning. The Goddess of Love is confident and sure-footed in the sign of the Bull, and the next few weeks are great for building up your resources, tending animals, creating art, walking in nature, and hopefully stabilizing the world’s financial markets. Mars and Venus are now both in their rulerships and able to express themselves fully. Real joy and progress can be found in relationships over the next few weeks. Get outside and enjoy nature. Also, make a conscious effort to remember your dreams tonight, there will be messages.
Sunday, May 29th: Mars conjunct Jupiter at 3:31am Pacific, and Moon enters Gemini at 10:23am. Whatever you dreamed about last night has importance so write it down. This aspect brings out the hero in each of us since we are driven towards personal truth. Break through procrastination and follow your passions. We are in the realm of the New Moon in Gemini tomorrow, and our minds are gearing up for a rebirth.

Full Moon at 25 Scorpio last night at 9:14pm Pacific. The Moon is weak here, in her fall, meaning that emotions are not easily expressed. Scorpio is the Halloween sign, representing Autumn and decay. Taurus represents springtime, which emerges from the decay as the blooming and flowering of life. Both are dependent on the other and are deeply tied to life on earth. A Scorpio Moon can bring up issues around intimacy and vulnerability, power and control. Use this week to cut the cords of the past and put your energy into the present.
This is the development, the fruition, of whatever was happening two weeks ago. It’s a solar eclipse, which heightens everything and creates a “do or die” attitude. The Full Moon also squares Saturn in Aquarius. We look at our subconscious motivations and turn toward a new direction.
Plotinus wrote: “The stars are like letters that inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky. Everything in the world is full of signs. All events are coordinated. All things depend on each other. Everything breathes together.”
Monday, May 16th: Moon in Sagittarius, but last night’s Full Moon Eclipse in Scorpio is in full effect. No risk taking or pushing boundaries today, focus on yourself and your needs. Venus is conjunct Chiron, which promotes HUGE healing in relationships. Take a fresh look at your inner wounds and be open for new realizations. Today is transformative, so take an unwavering look at your shadow side.
Tuesday, May 17th: Moon in Sagittarius all day. Look at goals and aim for the highest ideals. Jupiter is squaring Lilith for the next couple of weeks, which can expand acts of authenticity and boundary setting. This aspect activates women, self esteem and fearlessness. Also last night we had a biggie – Mars conjunct Neptune near midnight. Strong energy for artistic, romantic, musical or spiritual pursuits. Hopefully no bad news regarding water.
Wednesday, May18th: Moon in Capricorn, which is the Moon’s detriment. Another tough day for emotional sharing, so hold off if you can. The rest of the week is about hard work and earned rewards, because Saturn insists on commitment. The Full Moon is still unfolding, so there will be continued developments with current issues.
Thursday, May 19th: Moon in Capricorn all day so we follow our drives and ambitions. Do not seek concessions from authority figures – leave that until next week. Take stock of life and strengthen the foundation. Mercury sextile Jupiter is exact which lightens the mood.
Friday, May 20th: Moon in Aquarius. The Sun leaves Taurus for GEMINI at 6:23pm Pacific! We move from an Earth sign to an Air sign, which makes all of us feel lighter. With Gemini, our minds and social circles are activated. Lots of chattiness… talking is the way forward.
Saturday,May 21st: Moon in Aquarius and Sun conjunct Mercury is exact. These aspects, plus the Suns’ entrance into Gemini, make this a very “Airy” day. Mercury is retrograde though, so reworking old ideas or reorganizing your life are the best outlets. Air energy is mental activities, studying, short trips, puzzles, communication and community. Enjoy learning and good conversation.
Sunday,May 22nd: Moon in Pisces enters her 4th quarter, and we are in the dark of the Moon. Now is the time for solitude, introspection, and rest. Mercury moves backwards into Taurus and immediately squares Saturn (in Aquarius) in the morning. Guard against negative thinking or arguments with authorities. Release old habits and thinking patterns.
