Soft animal

“You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”

M. Oliver

All things change

“Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.” The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”

The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.” The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”

We saw some huge shifts last week, mostly around our inner boundaries, energy levels, and the over-arching 2020 transformations. Mars went Direct last Friday, but is very slow-moving, so it will remain at 15 Aries for the rest of November. If you have any planets near 15 Aries, 15, Cancer, 15 Libra or 15 Capricorn, they are getting super heated and charged up with Mars energy this month. Mars activates our drives, passions, lust and ambition, so look at how and where these aspects are cropping up in your life. Use November to plan which way you want to go, but wait until December to take decisive action.

We also experienced the momentous conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto at 22 Capricorn last Thursday – the same degree as the Saturn/Pluto conjunction last January that heralded the pandemic. It’s terrible to see the cases spiking again. Jupiter expands whatever it touches, and in this case it’s spreading the virus to epic proportions. Please take care of yourselves. On a personal level, this conjunction brings new ways to manage and grow with the massive transformations in your life this year.

Last Saturday night we reset our emotions with the New Moon at 22 degrees Scorpio. Did you have any visions or clear dreams this weekend? Messages came to each of us about the future through revelations, experiences, dreams, or even the words of friends. We take our first steps on this new path this week. Scorpio is the sign of regeneration, and is symbolized in the tarot by the Death card, which means one door closes and another one opens. Look to where you want to rebirth yourself, and put all of your focus there.

And there’s more! Sunday, today, we had Venus (Love) in a square with Pluto (Reformation), which sets the tone for the week. Venus is in Libra, where her energies are expressed in a delectable way. Libra demands equality, justice and fairness, and these issues could come up in our relationships this week. Pluto makes it imperative that our relationships evolve to match our New Moon path. This is the first of three squares Venus will make this week! We wrap up with a big reality check when Venus squares Saturn on Thursday.

Monday, November 16th: Moon in Sagittarius. Venus square Jupiter. The essence of the New Moon and Venus/Pluto square is still strong. The mood will be lighter today, just ride the waves. Spend some time outside to clear your mind. Excellent day to read philosophy, or spend your energy on being wildly romantic or creative 🙂

Tuesday, November 17th: Moon in Capricorn, and Mercury opposes Uranus. Lots of electricity and wild ideas in the air. Ground yourself through working hard, especially on things you’ve been avoiding. Issues could arise around understanding, truth, and honesty, as well as challenges with business. Focus on the goal.

Wednesday, November 18th: Moon in Capricorn. Moon approaches the “Big three” in Capricorn i.e. Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. Heaviness can result and you may not feel like doing a lot, which is fine. Do not demand anything from authority figures today because they will be resistant. Capricorn also brings certainty.

Thursday, November 19th: Moon in Aquarius and Venus squares Saturn. Reality check with relationships today. If you can, focus on what your mind tells you rather than your heart. Embrace reality. Also, let your creative genius out to play today. Good for connecting with friends and groups of folks.

Friday, November 20th: Moon in Aquarius, but void-of-course at 4:49pm Pacific for the rest of the day. Plans could change, best to go with the flow. If you need to have meetings or work through agreements, do it in the morning. Remember to focus on balance and win-win resolutions. No risk-taking.

Saturday, November 21st: Moon void ALL DAY in Aquarius until entering Pisces at 8:06pm Pacific!! Venus enters Scorpio and Sun into Sagittarius. No risk-taking or negotiation during a void-of-course Moon. Don’t buy anything either, if you can help it. Best to be creative and work on things already started.

Sunday, November 22nd: Moon in Pisces. Swim around your intuitions, ideas and creativity.

The Victim Trap, from “The Language of Letting Go”

The belief that life has to be hard and difficult is the belief that makes a martyr.

We can change our negative beliefs about life, and whether we have the power to stop our pain and take care of ourselves.

We aren’t helpless. We can solve our problems. We do have power – not to change or control others – but to solve the problems that are ours to solve.

Using each problem that comes our way to “prove” that life is hard and we are helpless – this is codependency. It’s the victim trap.

Life does not have to be difficult. In fact, it can be smooth. Life is good. We don’t have to “awfulize” it, or ourselves. We don’t have to live on the underside.

We do have power, more power than we know, even in the difficult times. And the difficult times don’t prove life is bad; they are part of the ups and downs of life; often, they work out for the best.

We can change our attitude; we can change ourselves; sometimes, we can change our circumstances.

Life is challenging. Sometimes, there’s more pain than we asked for; sometimes, there’s more joy than we imagined.

It’s all part of the package, and the package is good.

We are not victims of life. We can learn to remove ourselves as victims of life. By letting go of our belief that life has to be hard and difficult, we make our life much easier.

Today, Universe, help me let go of my belief that life is so hard, so awful, or so difficult. Help me replace that belief with a healthier, more realistic view.

Did you dream last night?

Fish Pond mosaic by Gary Drostle, made of vitreous ceramic tesserae using a ‘reverse technique’ and measures 2 metres in diameter. Made for a small public garden in Croydon, Surrey, UK.

What did you all dream about last night? We had a New Moon in Scorpio in the middle of the night, so whatever you dreamed, or whatever has been coming to you in the last couple of days, is very important. These are messages about your path forward, be sure and pay attention.

This is Why Your Brain Thinks Dating A Secure Person Is Boring

Excellent post by Kathrine Meraki in The Ascent!
Here’s the full article: https://medium.com/the-ascent/this-is-why-your-brain-thinks-dating-a-secure-person-is-boring-ce24487c8fa4

…”when you meet and date a secure person, something just doesn’t feel quite right. Despite the fact they’re comfortable with emotions, don’t play games and don’t keep you guessing…

You still can’t put your finger on this something.

Well, it’s likely you… not them.

Your brain tricking you, don’t fall for it if you want a secure relationship.

Here’s why dating a secure person feels boring………..

You’re Addicted to Drama in Relationships

“Mismatched attachment styles can lead to a great deal of unhappiness … even for people who love each other greatly.” — Amir Levine

When you’ve got two insecurely attached people in a relationship, it creates an addictive pattern.

Let’s say you’ve got an avoidant person and an anxious person, and they’re dating.

  • Anxious person — They want the avoidant person to reassure them and show them they care. Anxiously attached people often have low-self esteem and fear abandonment by their partner.
  • Avoidant person — They don’t like emotional displays because they feel overwhelmed by them. They might begin pulling away from the anxious person and use excuses to avoid them.

In this situation, the anxious person might begin feeling like they’ve done something wrong. Their heart rate goes up; they might feel sweaty and stressed out.

They grab their phone and write a long message to the person. They’re breathing rapidly, and they’re nervous about sending the text.

They just want to fix what they’ve done and make things ‘right’ again. Maybe they try and use sex to do this, I did.

Amir Levine said:

“The trick is not to get hooked on the highs and lows and mistake an activated attachment system for passion or love.”

And if the avoidant person replies or tries to get in touch again, the anxious person feels relieved.

Endorphins rush through their body and brain. The pain in their stomach dissolves, “phew,” they let out a sigh.

It’s like a heroin user getting their fix.

Only this time, the anxious person will walk on eggshells. They’ll stuff their wants and needs down.

It always comes back up again, though, which scares the other person away. And the pattern repeats itself until one person backs away for good.

Dating A Secure Person Feels Like You’re Going Cold Turkey

“You are absolutely worthy of love. You are made of love and you don’t need someone to trigger you into it by their unavailability.” — Damien Bohler

When you’re used to the toxic and high arousal of insecure relationships, secure people won’t give you that addictive hit. Secure people:

  • Don’t play games
  • Know what they want, and they will tell you
  • Won’t push you away if you open up to them
  • Aren’t codependent
  • Aren’t afraid of talking about their feelings with you.

This can be terrifying for an insecurely attached person.

  • When you’ve been used to rollercoaster relationships your whole life, something predictable and stable shocks you.
  • You might believe there’s no connection between you and the secure person because they don’t trigger the rush you’re used to.
  • You may want to run and go back to someone who clings on or pushes away because you think this is passion and love.

It’s not passion. It’s insecure attachment.

Stop! Don’t Jump Ship Yet

“In short, secure attachment is attunement. It reflects a positive-enough environment that creates and engenders basic trust.” — Diane Poole Heller

If you’re dating someone secure, the insecure part of you might feel tempted to hightail it. If you feel there’s no connection there, ask yourself:

Is this predictability activating my insecure attachment?

If you persevere and push through the discomfort, you’ll soon learn if it is insecure attachment or if you genuinely don’t have a connection.

It’s important to remember you’ve been used to ups and downs, and it might feel uncomfortable at first dating someone secure.

You might think your connection is dull and lacking passion. Here’s what a secure relationship looks like:

  • Healthy, secure relationships won’t give you emotional whiplash.
  • There’s a sense of trust and respect for each other.
  • You both are comfortable hanging out with friends separately and doing your own thing.
  • Showing each other love and affection is easy.

Dianne Pool Heller rightly said:

“As we familiarize ourselves more with secure attachment, our relationships become easier and more rewarding — we’re less reactive, more receptive, more available for connection, healthier, and much more likely to bring out the securely attached tendencies in others.”

When your partner models to you what a healthy attachment style is, you tend to follow suit. Even better if you can work on yourself too.

I’m glad I didn’t bail on my partner when I felt overwhelmed, because I wouldn’t have learned what a stable relationship is.

There are HUGE planetary events this week, but we are in the dark of the Moon, so just take it easy and rest. The Moon is waning until this Saturday evening, November 14th, when we have a New Moon in Scorpio.

Currently, Mars is at a dead stop in the sky, and will turn Direct (move forwards) on Friday – just in time for the New Moon in Scorpio on Saturday night. This is not the week to take action, it is a week of reflection, blending with the already quiet nature of the dark moon. We reassess our ambitions while Mars is retrograde, and revaluate our life path and direction. Next week we can move forward in a fresh alignment with the life and world we want to create. Here are some questions to ask yourself this week with regards to the Mars station:

What kind of life do you want to lead, and are your current actions in alignment with creating it? If not, perhaps it’s time to make some changes.

Are your goals in alignment with your true and highest self?

Your energy and drive are valuable; is it worth what you’re spending our time on?

The Mars station is a big deal, and it could bring a rise in tension this week, but there’s something even BIGGER happening! The REAL news, is Jupiter and Pluto meeting together at the same degree that started the pandemic in January. These two heavyweights will form a conjunction on Saturday at 22 Capricorn – the same degree as the Saturn/Pluto conjunction on January 12th which spawned the pandemic. This means it will feel like we are returning to the beginning of the story, but with all of the insight we’ve had this year. Jupiter expands and Pluto brings the disease, so prepare for a huge spike in cases. We will also see huge shifts in world power, since Capricorn rules the establishment. Perhaps another market crash…

This is the third and final Jupiter – Pluto conjunction in this cycle. It’s very strong and will be with this us throughout November. The first two conjunctions happened on April 5th and June 30th, so look back to these dates to see what themes you might be revisiting. What problems remain unsolved? What have you learned since those conjunctions? Has your definition of success changed? Have you found a sound basis for optimism?

While Jupiter can indicate success, joy, justice, expansion, religious understanding, and such positive qualities as generosity, optimism and hospitality, in essence Jupiter amplifies. Here Jupiter amplifies Pluto, Pluto is not only about destruction, it can indicate deep healing, tranquility, social and spiritual reform and transformation, necessary repairs, and rebirth collective and personal. How do we get the best from Pluto? Do the research. Make changes conscientiously. Include the greater good in your definition of success. Let go of bad habits and cultivate good ones. Force is not the right approach. Silent contemplation can help you find the right timing and the right place. Above all, take this opportunity to learn about yourself, about your goals, and about society. Know when to turn off the news. Enjoy the tranquil beauty of nature. Find pride in survival, and allow the humbling that society has suffered to bring you a deeper appreciation for who and what you cherish.

Monday, November 9th: Moon in Virgo. This is great energy to start off the week. Get organized, tie up loose ends and make a plan for what you’d like to accomplish. Mercury (Virgo’s ruler) is in the last degrees of Libra about to move into Scorpio tomorrow, so notice insights regarding relationships.

Tuesday, November 10th: Moon in Virgo, and Mercury reenters Scorpio at 0 degrees. Ground through nurturing your needs and organizing your home life. Good day for releasing, purging and breaking bad habits. With Mars stationing, watch out for crazy drivers; avoid social awkwardness.

Wednesday, November 11th: Moon in Libra. Normally a very sociable time, but take some time for yourself today, and bring your life into balance.

Thursday, November 12th: Moon in Libra, and Jupiter exactly conjunct Pluto at 22 Capricorn. Identify areas in your life that require reform and repair. Let go of habits and beliefs from the past that create unnecessary suffering. Meditate.

Friday, November 13th: Moon in Scorpio and Mars Direct at 15 Aries. Plans could change, best to go with the flow. If you need to have meetings or work through agreements, do it in the morning. Remember to focus on balance and win-win resolutions. Excellent date night.

Saturday, November 14th: New Moon in Scorpio at 9:07pm. Do Magick! Expect occult experiences and deep conversations with people. With Mars still retrograde, reflect on passions and think about what corner of your life needs action.

Sunday, November 15th: New Moon in Scorpio continues.
