Hecate

hecate

As we have entered the Fall season and October, I’d like to share with you these great writings on the powerful goddess Hecate, Queen of the Witches.

“HEKATE (Hecate), Greek goddess of the crossroads, magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts, and necromancy, guardian of the household, and protector of everything newly born — once a widely revered and influential goddess, the reputation of Hecate has been tarnished over the centuries. In current times, she is usually depicted as a “hag” or old witch stirring the cauldron.
But nothing could be further from the image of Hecate’s original glory.
A beautiful and powerful goddess in her own right, Hecate was the only one of the ancient Titans who Zeus allowed to retain their authority once the Olympians seized control. Zeus shared with Hecate, and only her, the awesome power of giving humanity anything she wished (or withholding it if she pleased).
A lover of solitude, Hecate was, like her cousin Artemis, a “virgin” goddess, unwilling to sacrifice her independent nature for the sake of marriage.
Usually classified as a “moon goddess”, her kingdoms were actually three-fold . . . the earth, sea, and sky. Having the power to create or withhold storms undoubtedly played a role in making her the goddess who was the protector of shepherds and sailors.
In her role as ‘Queen of the Night’ she was both honored and feared as the protectress of the oppressed and of those who lived “on the edge”.
It is hardly surprising that a woman who needed to make a trip alone at night would say a brief prayer to Hecate to seek her protection.” Secrets of the Occult

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/matauryn/2017/07/11/hekate-works-will/#kdaWcb6RHm1FMC8s.99

“I feel Hekate asks all of us to think and act in a titanic way. Though she works with us on a personal level her realms are so much vaster. I feel one of the biggest messages she’s delivered to me is that of going through your own personal abyss of shadows to find your own torch to lead you down your own path. Hekate as the Spirit of the World, asks us to think about our role upon the planet. What energies and actions are we allowing into our world? Which structures, paradigm…s and systematic forms of oppression need to be burned and not allowed to pass? What do we allow into our portals of reality upon this Earth to enhance it for all Her children? How are we in return, care-taking and guarding the planet we are an extension of? How are we going to put on our crown of sovereignty and decide what we allow and what we don’t allow upon our planet.

You may be thinking, Hecate is associated with dogs, but she is indeed also associated with cats. Ovid shares that when Princess Alcmene was pregnant with Hercules by Zeus, her servant Galinthias played a trick on Hera to ensure that Alcmene would successfully give birth without Hera thwarting it. Hera enraged turned Galinthias into a cat as punishment and sent her to the underworld where she served as a priestess of Hecate. Thus, black cats were considered omens of death, witchcraft, and the underworld due to their associations with Hecate.”

We begin this week with a balsamic, fallow Moon, building towards a New Moon in Libra on Wednesday, October 6th. Leading up to this New Moon, we have an opportunity to release our relationship blocks – especially romantic ones. The planets Venus (women) and Mars (men) are both in their detriments right now, which means they are unable to express their natures. Everyone is going through some new growth challenges. The dark of the Moon, leading up to a New Moon in Libra, is a time for self examination about what you are projecting onto your partner. Also, we are wrapping things up, finishing projects and adjusting to new conditions.

Mercury is stopped in the sky, and went retrograde at 25 Libra on Sunday. With six planets now retrograde, this is an appropriate time for looking back. Also, Saturn and Pluto are slowing down, preparing to go Direct next week, which can make everything feel very real, and put some of us in survival mode. Be patient and open to learning how to live a better life, because Saturn wants us to “level up”. If you have difficult work to do (that you’ve been putting off), or decision to make, now is the time.

Monday, September 27th: Moon in Gemini makes two big aspects today: square to Neptune and trine to Mars. We start the week with lots of chatty, social energy, but the square to Neptune can have us living in daydreams. Use the teamwork vibe of Mars in Libra to get things done.

Tuesday, September 28th: Moon in Cancer enters her 4th quarter, and we are in the dark of the Moon. This is a week of rest. No big aspects today, so take it easy and take care of your emotional needs. Moon in Cancer is in her rulership, and insights into our feelings can be very healing at the time.

Wednesday, September 29th: Moon in Cancer, and two BIG aspects: Venus trines Neptune in Pisces, and the Sun in Libra trines Saturn. The Venus trine makes us dreamy, creative and imaginative. Use your instincts. The Sun trine brings delight to hard work, and we can make solid progress with meaningful projects. It’s a great day. The Cancer Moon, could bring a need for solitude and reflection. Give yourself what you need.

Thursday,  September 30th: Moon void-of-course in Cancer ALL DAY, until she enters Leo at 5:53pm Pacific. With a Cancer Moon void, do things that increase your feeling of security. No big risks today, and avoid getting into squabbles with people, because they will be hyper sensitive. Try to hang out at home and eat a good meal. There’s also a bunch of Moon aspects, but the big event today is Venus in Scorpio squaring Jupiter in Aquarius. There could be disillusionment with a relationship. Don’t make any big decisions until November though.

Friday,  October 1stMoon in Leo makes aspects with the Sun, Mars and an opposition with Uranus. We’ll all be feeling pretty good today, but expect eccentric, strange surprises with the opposition around 7:30pm. Great evening to see performances, or engage in heart-centered activities.

Saturday, October 2ndMoon in Leo goes void-of-course at 4:43pm and stays void all evening. Before that, the Moon makes a ton of different aspects, including an opposition to Jupiter and a square to Venus. It’s a rapidly shifting day.

Sunday,  October 3rd: Moon in Virgo, and Mercury in Libra trines Jupiter in Aquarius around 5pm. Of course today is good for tidying up the house, running errands, and fixing anything broken. Toss stuff out and let things go – someone else can use it.

We started on Monday with a Full Moon at 28 Pisces, rising as a beautiful harvest moon around 7:30pm Pacific. The energies of this Full Moon will unfold over the next several days. Pisces is peak experiences with our spirituality, right brain, psychic abilities, healing, endings, and the cosmic. Overcome victim consciousness; you are not a victim of anyone or anything. Since this Full Moon takes place at the very last degree of Pisces, we are REALLY wrapping something up – something is ending and something is about to start.

The Sun moves through the last degrees of Virgo, then enters Libra on Wednesday at 12:21pm, heralding the Fall Equinox! It is equal day and equal night – a time of finding balance in our lives. Libra is justice, coexistence, law, liberty, equality, and fraternity. With the Full Moon and the Equinox happening together, this is a powerful week of transition.

Monday, September 20th: Full Moon in Pisces at 4:55pm Pacific, goes void-of-course, then enters Aries at 8:13pm. Have some solitude today and reflect on things. Daydreams, music and movies are always highlighted with a Pisces Moon. Have fun, eat something sweet, and let yourself be creative. Also today we have Mercury in Libra trine Jupiter in Aquarius which greatly enhances communication, writing, luck and prospects. Grab any oportunities that arise today.

Tuesday, September 21st: Moon in Aries has us feeling frisky and charging full speed ahead. The Moon here on a Tuesday (Day of Mars) is auspicious, but unfortunately Mars itself is in it’s detriment (hard place) in Libra. The warrior doesn’t like having to sit in Libra’s tea parties and design committee meetings. Channel all that energy into things that feel like an easy win, that will boost your self esteem.

Wednesday, September 22nd: FALL EQUINOX. Sun enters LIBRA at 12:21pm Pacific time. Equal day equal night. Mercury squares Pluto at dawn, bring an edge to communications today. There are no trivial, light conversations with this aspect. Because of the square, and the Moon still in Aries, avoid headstong, “fuck it” kinds of attitudes. There could be control issues or power struggles with others, especially online. Moon in Aries goes void at 7:05pm. Watch for a huge Moon tonight.

Thursday, September 23rd: Moon in Taurus is inconjunct with the Sun and Mars, which can bring up health related issues. Venus in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus in the predawn hours, which can bring an element of unpredictability to our day. The Moon squares Saturn in Aquarius too, which can bring a cold, pessimistic mood. This could be a rough day, so avoid risks and important conversations. Be aware that people are cautious and stubborn during a Taurus Moon.

Friday, September 24th: Moon in Taurus on a Friday (day of Venus) makes for a perfect date night, however Venus magick is not advised as the planet is in her detriment (not happy) in Scorpio. Also, the Moon conjuncts Uranus and opposes Venus today, which can spark sudden, unexpected tensions and events. Oppositions, especially between Taurus and Scorpio, can make for steamy connections though too. With Uranus in Taurus being activated, try new approaches to earthly matters.

Saturday, September 25th: Moon is void-of-course in Taurus ALL DAY, until she enters Gemini at 5:36pm. That’s a LONG void period! Follow plans that have been previously agreed upon, OR stay home and clean your house. At 2:50pm, Mars in Libra makes a lovely trine with Saturn in Aquarius, which gives us lots of energy, drive, ambition and focus.

Sunday, September 26th: Moon in Gemini has three lovely trines with the Sun in Libra, Saturn in Aquarius, and Mars in Libra. That’s a whole lot of Air happening today, which means we can explore our truths, understand each other, and climb our personal mountains. Starhawk says mountain tops symbolize the element Air, so go climbing today.

Stoiscm

“Sometimes, even to live is an act of courage” – Seneca

Several years ago I bought a book on the philosophy of Epictetus – the ancient Greek philosopher that lived in 55 A.D. I was profoundly effected by his words of wisdom, but only recently I discovered he was also the founder of Stocism.

Let me tell you, Stoicism is totally what I’m in to these days.

Remember that Stoicism isn’t about judging other people. It’s not a moral philosophy you’re supposed to project and enforce onto the world. No, it’s a personal philosophy that’s designed to direct your behavior. This is what Marcus Aurelius meant when he said: “Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.”

Maler_der_Geschichte_von_Bayâd_und_Riyâd_001

Definition from Britannica: “Stoicism, a school of thought that flourished in Greek and Roman antiquity. It was one of the loftiest and most sublime philosophies in the record of Western civilization. In urging participation in human affairs, Stoics have always believed that the goal of all inquiry is to provide a mode of conduct characterized by tranquillity of mind and certainty of moral worth.”

This week, we are building up to the Full Moon at 29 Pisces, which will happen next Monday, September 20th. This is the last week we have with the Sun in Virgo. The Sun moves through the last degrees of Virgo, and into Libra next Wednesday, Sept. 22nd. This will be the Fall Equinox – equal day and equal night – the great balance. More on that next Sunday.

This is a quiet week astrologically, but we are moving towards Mercury going retrograde on September 26th, and the intensity of the Saturn and Pluto stations of early October. This could bring up more issues with the pandemic – perhaps another surge. Saturn and Pluto were the planets that began the pandemic in January 2020. When they change direction, the foundations of our lives, and their stability, become apparent.

Monday, September 13th: Moon in Sagittarius enters it’s second quarter. There’s a ton of aspects with the Moon today, so there will be a huge amount of information and energy flying around. Just roll with it. People will be in a happy, optimistic mood with the Moon in Sag, so we begin the week on a good note.

Tuesday, September 14th: Moon in Capricorn. The Sun in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces today, which can bring confusion. Use your instincts, and take other people’s resolutions with a grain of salt. Avoid overindulging in alcohol, food or shopping as ways to handle stress. Mars goes into Libra in the afternoon, which is the sign of it’s detriment. It will be there for a few weeks, and during that time we could find difficulties with advancement. Be patient with men too.

Wednesday, September 15th: Moon in Capricorn, and the beginning of Yom Kippur. The Moon is uncomfortable and heavy here, and authorities can be rigid and uncaring. Energy is hard to get off the ground, control issues arise, along with power struggles. Moon conjuncts Pluto in the middle of the night, giving us intense dreams. Put some lavender under your pillow tonight and try to remember them.

Thursday, September 16th: Moon in Aquarius trines Mars newly in Libra – which could bring up productive conversations in relationships. Don’t expect a lot from men though, because Mars (their representation) is very uncomfortable in Libra. Sun tines Pluto in the early evening, which brings messages about our soul’s current evolution. Sun trine Pluto is powerful, because our Star, the Sun, is connecting harmoniously with Pluto in the outer reaches of our solar system. Look at the big picture, decide where you want to go, and release anything standing in your way.

Friday, September 17th: Moon in Aquarius squares Venus in Scorpio and conjuncts Saturn in the middle of the night, giving some heaviness and intensity to our dreams. This is just a prelude to the main event of the day: Venus in Scorpio square Saturn in Aquarius. There could be a reality check, or wake up call, in the arenas of love and art. A square means you have to put some work into progressing. Also, stay away from protests and marches this weekend. Seriously. They may not turn out well with this aspect as a backdrop.

Saturday, September 18th: Moon void-of-course all morning in Aquarius, then enters Pisces at 1:22pm Pacific. It’s a floaty type of day; great for dreaming and water adventures. Go swimming, or just sit at the beach and dream. The main thing is we are all psychically open right now, so be around trustworthy and authentic people. We are in the orb of the Full Moon coming Monday evening, so keep a low profile.

Sunday, September 19th: Moon in Pisces trines Venus in Scorpio, and sextiles Uranus in Taurus in the afternoon. The Pisces/Scorpio/Taurus combination is great for expressing one’s imagination. Be creative today, and let your instincts speak. Uranus activates our genius, and gives rise to sudden revelations and events.

We began this week with a New Moon at 14 Virgo, which occurred Monday and continues to unfold today. We are inspired to clean up our lives and get everything in order. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the winged messenger of thought and communication. With the Sun and Mercury so close together, our minds are at their peak, and we can be decisive. The decisions you make now, determine your future path.

Virgo means to discern, analyze, discriminate and assimilate (which is why I posted the picture of the cell). We need to take care of ourselves and each other. Virgo is a sign of health, work, and being of service. We are preparing to enter ‘relationships’ when the Sun goes into Libra on September 22nd. How we enter the world needs to be thought out, planned and disciplined in Virgo.

The floods last week from hurricane Ida were catastrophic for so many people. Last week, the Moon in Cancer was trining Neptune in Pisces, while Neptune opposed Mars. Neptune and Pisces signify water, the collective unconscious, tidal waves, chaos, the ocean, intuition, surrender, and connection with the divine. With Mars opposing, it can turn into a huge, violent storm. It’s overwhelming, and can bring destruction, anger, and violence in it’s wake. I believe the catastrophe of this storm was brought about by climate change, and enhanced planetarily. I hope relief will come with this New Moon.

Monday, September 6th: New Moon in Virgo at 5:52pm Pacific today! Virgo is the High Priestess of Reality. She is an Earth sign ruled by Mercury. The Earth is our physical body. How is your health right now? What can you do to support your health and be stronger? Besides the fabulous New Moon energy, there is a whole slew of major aspects today! Huge shifts are happening:
Mars in Virgo trines Pluto in Capricorn at exactly 24 degrees. Our energy is boosted.
Venus in Libra trines Jupiter in Aquarius – romantic, artistic, lovely energy.
Sun in Virgo trines Uranus in Taurus – this magnifies the New Moon energy, and brings inspiration, ideas, and revolutionary thinking.
Mars inconjunct Jupiter – could bring health-related crisis

Tuesday, September 7th: Virgo Moon goes void-of-course at 12:24pm, then enters Libra at 8:20pm Pacific. That is a very long void period! Follow already laid plans and avoid taking risks during this time. The New Moon in Virgo energy is still very strong today, especially with all of those major aspects. Our focus is on order and health. Moon conjunct Mars during the void period inspires us to action and ambition.

Wednesday, September 8th: Moon in Libra all day makes a lovely trine with Saturn, and then conjunction with Mercury. Lots of good “airy” energy today if you feel inspired to create some Mercury Magick. A simple thing to do is to light a yellow candle to clear and inspire your mind. This is one of the last Wednesdays to do real Mercury Magick for this year, so make good use of it.

Thursday, September 9th: Moon in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn in the afternoon. There could be a continuation of whatever event happened on Sunday – maybe further conversation or developments. The focus will be on fairness, balance and justice. Try to see the other person’s point of view and be flexible. Agreements will be hard won.

Friday, September 10th: Moon in Scorpio AND Venus into Scorpio at 1:39pm Pacific, which is the sign of her detriment. We are entering a tough few weeks for relationships – as well as for beauty and art-related areas. Let women have the last word while Venus transits Scorpio. Moon square Saturn in the afternoon makes us agree to reality-based ideas.
Remember, with a Scorpio Moon, visit the ocean, or hang out by a pool. This Moon brings out the truth, but also makes people sensitive, so avoid social complications. With the Moon in Scorpio it’s a witchy day. Remember, if a boundary needs to be set, today is the day.

Saturday, September 11th: Moon in Scorpio makes five aspects today, giving us opportunities for deep, emotional growth. Scorpio is the sign of healing, rebirth, transformation and regeneration, so it’s a good placement for the 20 year rememberance of 911. The only challenge comes from the Moon squaring Jupiter in Aquarius, so resist the urge to escape reality or over-indulge in vices.

Sunday, September 12th: Moon in Sagittarius sextiles Saturn in the afternoon, so you can make some progress with challenging work, or getting chores done. Sagittarian moon wants to play around and explore, so carve out time for adventures too!

We begin this week with a balsamic, fallow Moon, building towards a New Moon at 16 Virgo next Monday, Labor Day, September 6th. Leading up to this New Moon, we have an opportunity to release our perfectionism, laziness, self criticism, procrastination, and cluttered houses (i.e. Sun in Virgo). We are wrapping things up, finishing projects and adjusting to new, uncertain conditions. Honestly, it’s a tough time for many people.

We are in a world of extremes, and it’s never seemed so pronounced as it does right now. The Western side of the country is on fire, while a huge, catastrophic hurricane sliced through and leveled the south. Mercury entered Libra Sunday night, which will hopefully create a way for us to listen to and help each other. This is a good position for partnerships, negotiation, and creative activity. This Venus-ruled Mercury placement can bring harmony to life. Celebrate art and love.

The Sun in Virgo is squaring the North and South Nodes of the Moon this week. Watch for sign posts directing you to your future. Mars in Virgo will oppose Neptune in Pisces, and trine Pluto in Capricorn this week, setting off the same aspect that Venus and Mercury encountered recently. Mars wants us to put our plans into ACTION.

Monday, August 30th: Moon in Gemini enters her 4th quarter, and we are in the dark of the Moon for the next several days. Don’t work too hard this week. The dark of the Moon is a time to rest and reflect. Moon trine Saturn puts our emotions in affinity with our ambitions, and smooths over any rough spots. Moon in Gemini encourages us to talk about it.

Tuesday, August 31st: Moon in Gemini goes void at 1:45pm Pacific for the rest of the day. She also makes five aspects, so ride the waves. The Moon goes through every sign, and aspects every planet EVERY month. The Moon ties the astrology together. Keep a low profile today with the void moon. Follow plans that have already been made.

Wednesday, September 1st: Moon in Cancer makes a few minor aspects. We might need solitude, since our sensitivities are at a monthly peak. Give yourself whatever you need today.

Thursday,  September 2nd: Moon in Cancer loves a visit to a pool, lake, river, or ocean if you feel inclined. There’s a few Moon aspects, but the big event today is Mars opposing Neptune. We might experience resistance or disillusionment with the things we want to pursue. Mars is our Will, while Neptune blurs our vision so we can commune with the divine. Don’t give in to feeling lost today, explore your imagination and creativity instead.

Friday,  September 3rd: Moon in Leo doesn’t make any aspects until a sextile with Mercury in the evening. It’s a quiet day astrologically, but the Moon in Leo insists we all have a good time. It’s a heart-filled day, so go out and have an adventure.

Saturday, September 4th: Moon in Leo. Mercury trine Saturn in the evening helps us communicate our truth. Our thinking can also get a reality check. Writers can make progress with editing and organizing their ideas. Whatever comes up, go ahead and talk about it or do some journaling. We are in the darkest phase of the monthly moon cycle so lots of old feelings and issues could be coming up, so we can release them.

Sunday,  September 5th: Moon in Leo is void-of-course from 7:22am to 4:06pm Pacific, when she enters Virgo. We are in the New Moon in Virgo now, so of course today is good for tidying up the house, running errands, and fixing anything broken. Toss stuff out and let things go – someone else can use it. The big aspect today is Venus square Pluto. Relationships could have a crisis come up that will lead to a deeper understanding, or a breaking point. If you’re single, don’t take any risks. Pluto has a dark, unpredictable energy to it, so practice restraint.

The Sun moved into Virgo on Sunday, heralding the beginning of harvest season! We also had a Full Moon at the tail end of Aquarius. Something in your life is coming to a close, and something is starting – and it’s making you stretch out of your comfort zone. The transition from Leo to Virgo is profound. With the Sun in Leo, we reveled in our true identity, and practiced new ways of expressing it to the world; now with Virgo we get to work.

Mars in Virgo had a friendly trine to Uranus in Taurus on Sunday around midnight, and will continue all week. What are the ways you can liberate your drive, so you can manifest your Will on the world? Mars wants us to TAKE ACTION to find freedom, and defend our future (Uranus). Be open to pathways showing up that are outside of the norm.

Monday, August 23rd: Moon in Pisces opposes Mars and Mercury in Virgo today, emotionally integrating events of last week. We’re still deep in the gravity of yesterday’s Full Moon in Aquarius/Pisces, and we might see more unfolding developments. Venus trine Saturn is exact in the pre-dawn hours, helping us achieve discipline in our artistic ambitions. Set necessary limits and get to work. The issue of commitment may come up in relationships.

Tuesday, August 24th: Moon in Pisces is void until entering Aries at noon Pacific time. Moon in Aries enhances the mood of “Mars Tuesday”, but Mars itself is SO unhappy over in Virgo. Not a great day for Mars magick. We’re going to have to wait a couple of months for him to enter Scorpio. Also today, Mercury in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces, bringing up confusion in communications. Watch the misinformation expand it’s reach today, but don’t engage; focus on art instead.

Wednesday, August 25th: Moon in Aries opposes Venus in Libra, which can impact relationships and bring up some scuffles. Watch your temper. With Moon in Aries, keep calm while driving, or dealing with insecure, headstrong people. There’s a feeling of rebirth today, so be in tune with what you’re birthing in your life. Mercury is SO HAPPY in Virgo right now, so today is fabulous for Air Magick of any kind.

Thursday, August 26th: Moon in Aries goes void-of-course at 2:14pm Pacific for several hours – entering Taurus at 9:27pm. Look out. Don’t take any risks, and give up reasoning with stubborn people. Hard to get concessions from anyone today. In the morning, Mercury in Virgo trines Pluto in Capricorn, which makes us want deep, meaningful communications. Wait until tomorrow. Or even next week.

Friday, August 27th: Moon in Taurus (EXALTED) with Venus in Libra (in RULERSHIP)? Yep, this is a FANTASTIC day for Venus Magick. Anyone can burn a green candle to attract money, pink for friends and red for passionate love. Get some fresh flowers in your house and wear nice clothes. Moon squaring Saturn in the afternoon means we can deal with reality and wrap up work by dinnertime. In the evening, merge with the sensual side of Taurus, and indulge yourself in romance, food, or nature.

Saturday, August 28th: Moon in Taurus conjuncts Uranus and trines Mars in Virgo. The lovely, romantic vibe continues, but this time, expect the unexpected. Projects might need adjustment. Also, Venus is inconjunct with Uranus, which brings the desire for independence and freedom. Let yourself have the time or space you need today, in order to reconnect with who you are and what you want.

Sunday, August 29th: Moon goes into Gemini at 9:42am, and later squares Jupiter and trines Mercury. This enhances the lightning-fast-communication vibe of the Gemini Moon. We want to socialize and talk to everyone. THEN Mercury enters Libra at 10:10pm, bringing a need for harmony and balance to our relationships.

What is Magick?

“Withdraw into yourself and look. And if you do not find yourself beautiful yet, act as does the creator of a statue that is to be made beautiful: he cuts away here, he smoothes there, he makes this line lighter, this other purer, until a lovely face has grown upon his work. So do you also: cut away all that is excessive, straighten all that is crooked, bring light to all that is overcast, labour to make all one glow of beauty and never cease chiselling your statue, until there shall shine out on you from it the godlike splendour of virtue, until you shall see the perfect goodness surely established in the stainless shrine.”
― Plotinus

Happy Full Moon today!
