Rose Lyon is a highly regarded American occultist, psychic and healer residing in Sacramento. She began formal study of the occult in her twenties as a regular visitor to a local curiosity shop. She befriended a local Wiccan priestess who taught her astrology, magic and tarot. This led to her formal initiation into the Craft in 1988. She continued her studies by joining the Clairvoyant training program at Psychic Horizons, graduating as a reverend in 1993. With a hunger for art and history she enrolled at SFSU in the theater program where her training exposed her to the ancient connections between shamanism and theater. Majoring in Drama with an emphasis in World Religions, she studied the history of Greek and European theater as well as Women's Studies. She graduated with a BA in Drama & Performance in 1997. Since then she has expanded her occult knowledge through studies of Irish folklore, Chinese astrology, herbal healing and Feng Shui. She is an adept healer and psychic, and continues her practice of tarot readings, psychic healings and marriage ceremonies while studying Ceremonial Magick and Qabalah with the Temple of the Silver Star.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
Except I’m sober of course 🙂 I’ll take his writing though, absolutely.
I’ve posted his chart below which shows a Uranus-Venus opposition. This aspect is dominated by Uranus, and creates sharp rebelliousness in a person. Bukowski was the epitome of this influence with his unconventional attitude – asserting his unique identity, not caring a wit about people’s opinions. He was a natural rebel who questioned the foundations of our culture. Saturn is very close to his Venus in Virgo too, giving a cold, realistic edge to his writing.
And if that wasn’t enough, his North Node in Scorpio continually drew him to the underbelly of the life. And with Mercury, Sun, Neptune and Jupiter in Leo in his 10th House, he HAD to stand out.
I’ve included a fantastic documentary on his life along with his chart. In the meantime, here’s a dose of Saturnian reality for you:
Born like this
Into this
As the chalk faces smile
As Mrs. Death laughs
As the elevators break
As political landscapes dissolve
As the supermarket bag boy holds a college degree
As the oily fish spit out their oily prey
As the sun is masked
We are
Born like this
Into this
Into these carefully mad wars
Into the sight of broken factory windows of emptiness
Into bars where people no longer speak to each other
Into fist fights that end as shootings and knifings
Born into this
Into hospitals which are so expensive that it’s cheaper to die
Into lawyers who charge so much it’s cheaper to plead guilty
Into a country where the jails are full and the madhouses closed
Into a place where the masses elevate fools into rich heroes
Born into this
Walking and living through this
Dying because of this
Muted because of this
Castrated
Debauched
Disinherited
Because of this
Fooled by this
Used by this
Pissed on by this
Made crazy and sick by this
Made violent
Made inhuman
By this
The heart is blackened
The fingers reach for the throat
The gun
The knife
The bomb
The fingers reach toward an unresponsive god
The fingers reach for the bottle
The pill
The powder
We are born into this sorrowful deadliness
We are born into a government 60 years in debt
That soon will be unable to even pay the interest on that debt
And the banks will burn
Money will be useless
There will be open and unpunished murder in the streets
It will be guns and roving mobs
Land will be useless
Food will become a diminishing return
Nuclear power will be taken over by the many
Explosions will continually shake the earth
Radiated robot men will stalk each other
The rich and the chosen will watch from space platforms
Dante’s Inferno will be made to look like a children’s playground
The sun will not be seen and it will always be night
Trees will die
All vegetation will die
Radiated men will eat the flesh of radiated men
The sea will be poisoned
The lakes and rivers will vanish
Rain will be the new gold
The rotting bodies of men and animals will stink in the dark wind
The last few survivors will be overtaken by new and hideous diseases
And the space platforms will be destroyed by attrition
The petering out of supplies
The natural effect of general decay
And there will be the most beautiful silence never heard
Born out of that.
The sun still hidden there
Awaiting the next chapter.
1. They don’t hide their anxiety, they hide their symptoms. To have concealed anxiety isn’t to deny having it – only to do everything in your power to ensure other people don’t see you struggle.
2. They have the most anxiety about having anxiety. Because they are not comfortable letting people see them in the throes of an irrational panic, the most anxiety-inducing idea is… whether or not they’ll have anxiety at any given moment in time.
3. They come across as a paradoxical mix of outgoing but introverted, very social but rarely out. It is not that they are anti-social, just that they can only take being around others incrementally (which is mostly normal). Yet, on the surface, this may come across as confusing.
4. They make situations worse by trying to suppress their feelings about them. They are extremely uncomfortable with other people seeing them in pain, and they don’t want to feel pitied or as though they are compromising anyone’s time. Yet, they make things worse for themselves by suppressing, as it actually funnels a ton of energy into making the problem larger and more present than it already was.
5. They are often hyper-aware and highly intuitive. Anxiousness is an evolutionary function that essentially keeps us alive by making us aware of our surroundings and other people’s motives. It’s only uncomfortable when we don’t know how to manage it effectively – the positive side is that it makes you hyper-conscious of what’s going on around you.
6. Their deepest triggers are usually social situations. It’s not that they feel anxious in an airplane, it’s that they feel anxious in an airplane and are stuck around 50 other people. It’s not that they will fail a test, but that they will fail a test and everyone in school will find out and think they are incompetent and their parents will be disappointed. It’s not that they will lose love, but that they will lose love and nobody will ever love them again.
7. It is not always just a “panicked feeling” they have to hide. It can also be a tendency to worry, catastrophizing, etc. The battle is often (always?) between competing thoughts in their minds.
8. They are deep thinkers, and great problem-solvers. One of the benefits of anxiety is that it leads you to considering every worst case scenario, and then subsequently, how to handle or respond to each.
9. They are almost always “self-regulating” their thoughts. They’re talking themselves in, out, around, up or down from something or another very often, and increasingly so in public places.
10. They don’t trust easily, but they will convince you that they do. They want to make the people around them feel loved and accepted as it eases their anxiety in a way.
11. They tend to desire control in other areas of their lives. They’re over-workers or are manically particular about how they dress or can’t really seem to let go of relationships if it wasn’t their idea to end them.
12. They have all-or-nothing personalities, which is what creates the anxiety. Despite being so extreme, they are highly indecisive. They try to “figure out” whether or not something is right before they actually try to do it.
13. They assume they are disliked. While this is often stressful, it often keeps them humble and grounded at the same time.
14. They are very driven (they care about the outcome of things). They are in equal proportions as in control of their lives as they feel out of control of their lives – this is because they so frequently try to compensate for fear of the unknown.
15. They are very smart, but doubt it.A high intelligence is linked to increased anxiety (and being doubtful of one’s mental capacity are linked to both).
Merry Christmas everybody! The Full Moon is in it’s natural home of Cancer today, which makes everyone want to hibernate and eat a lot. So go for it and have a wonderful day!!
Here’s some wonderful pictures of the Full Moon from around the world:

The wheel of the year has turned and we are officially in Winter and Capricorn season. The Capricorn goat knows how to survive harsh conditions and pick it’s way over an impassable landscape. It’s a season of miracles. The seed of the Sun has been planted in the time of greatest darkness, and will start to grow in daylight hours. Such a beautiful time of year. I love all the ancient traditions of light in the darkness. You can see it on our city streets today.
Capricorn represents ambition, self mastery and hard work. It’s ruled by the planet Saturn which teaches us responsibility and maturity – and that we will reap what we sow. I think these are great themes to keep in mind when setting intentions for the coming year. I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, but I do believe in working hard towards what fulfills us and makes us happy.
We had a wonderful Grand Earth trine this week too! The Moon in Taurus (exalted!) enhanced by Jupiter in Virgo, and made real by Pluto (and Mercury) in Capricorn (evolution). This gives a grounded, positive boost to anything we begin this week!
I was a ballet dancer for a brief time in my youth, and I remember the leaders of the troupe watching Fred Astaire over and over again… studying his movements. I saw Fred Astaire in a movie recently and got curious about his planetary placements. For instance, here he is playing the drums with his feet:
He seemed so Gemini – such lightness of movement. So I looked it up and thought I’d share it with you. And there it is!
Neptune, Pluto and the Moon in Gemini in his 6th House of WORK. Pluto and Moon in Gemini is a powerful and evolutionary path of self expression. Neptune actually in the 7th House, giving him an intuition about his partners.
Never guessed Sun in Taurus, but such a creative, fruitful placement in the 5th House of Creativity and Romance! Opposing Jupiter in Scorpio: he had depth but all in all a romantic, intelligent and friendly guy. That Libra midheaven trining the Gemini aspects accentuated his role as leading man.
And all this action around his Rising in Sagittarius! Vertex, Uranus, Saturn and the North Node of Fate. His basic approach to the world was freedom, truth and meaning.
He was the real deal. Uranus in Sagittarius is a revolutionary – someone who stretches boundaries, but Saturn nearby keeps him grounded and hard working.
Mars (and Lilith) in Leo – driven towards fame, performance, leadership and finesse. That Lilith in Leo giving him a primal slant that sets him apart from all others.
Anyone care to add more? I’d love to hear your insights! An if there’s a famous person’s chart you’d like me to do, let me know!
VERY interesting! This article is a wonderful outline of how alchemy symbolically works through our bodies and lives. The “Philosophers Stone” is the pineal gland – our intuitive center in our brains.
Aleph Bass — an aleph bet song by Darshan :: אלף בית – דרשן
“Watching this once is not enough. Darshan has produced a masterful portrayal of the Hebrew aleph bet that will have you wondering about the references and wanting to find poster-versions of the artwork.
Darshan are Shir Yaakov Feit and Eden Perstein – both musicians on their own who come together for the Darshan project.”
