We begin this week with a balsamic, fallow Moon, building towards a New Moon at 18 Cancer on Friday. The eclipses are behind us, and it’s interesting to notice where our lives and attitudes have changed over the last month. Leading up to this New Moon on Friday, we have an opportunity to release things that don’t fit into our new, emotional way of being (i.e. Sun in Cancer).
We just came through some volatile aspects last weekend. There was a fixed T-square: Mars in Leo and Saturn in Aquarius opposing each other, and Uranus in Taurus in the middle squaring both. It brought anger, struggles with authority, ego deflation, sudden surprises and urgent need for change. These influences will be with us for several more days. If we’ve been stuck in power struggles with someone, it is plainly obvious this week.
You can use this energy by giving positive attention to sexuality and ambition. Uranus, forming the square, wants you to focus on the future. How can you make your path easier? Where can you integrate new technology into your life to better support and grow your aspirations?
Underneath everything, we have the retrogrades of Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto. That’s a lot of backwards motion. Perhaps you feel no progress is being made these days. If you feel stuck, lost in life, that you’ve been backsliding, things aren’t moving fast enough, or just irrational fears, it could all be exacerbated by these retrogrades. Saturn and Pluto can bring up helplessness, karma, issues with time, sacrifice and depletion; but their retrogrades bring long term stability. You just have to stay in the present and go with the flow.
Monday, July 5th: Moon void-of-course in Taurus at 10am Pacific, then into Gemini at 6:24pm. It’s an unstable way to start the week. Anything can come up during a void moon, and this is a longish one. Focus on matters at hand. Sun sextile Uranus is exact and brings yearning for freedom, independence and new perspective. Let yourself be wild and free. Moon square Jupiter in the evening could bring some tensions between our mind and spirit.
Tuesday, July 6th: Moon in Gemini trines Saturn today, bringing a serious tone to communications. Mercury squares Neptune in the middle of the night, so try and remember your dreams. When we wake up, this square brings confusion to decisions and communications, so be patient, ask questions, listen, and be know everyone else is in the same boat. Capturing your imagination in your work may produce wonderful results.
Also Tuesday, Venus opposition Saturn occurs at 7:36pm Pacific, and can bring a chill to relationships, or a need for personal time. Learn more about your craft; study and practice can bring beautiful results. Perhaps a mentor might teach you something wonderful. But it’s easy to give in to pessimism with this aspect, and miss the potential. Some may feel lonely or dubious about relationships, but it’s wise to avoid big decisions until the weather is more favorable.
Wednesday, July 7th: Moon in Gemini sextiles Mars and squares Neptune in the evening, bringing up echoes from yesterday. The Moon conjuncts the North Node today, so watch for flashes of the future. The Moon is in it’s balsamic phase, preparing for the New Moon coming Friday… Venus trine Chiron today brings lovely opportunities for healing to relationships, or healing through women and art.
Thursday, July 8th: Moon in Cancer makes a whole slew of aspects. Planetary energies are unified in a supportive way for tomorrow’s New Moon. Venus square Uranus is exact today, meaning sudden, unexpected events can impact relationships. It can be a positive or negative influence, just whatever is needed for growth. After so much restriction the urge for adventure, luxury, exciting pleasures, can be strong.
Friday, July 9th: New Moon in Cancer at 6:17pm Pacific. The tarot card for today is the Ace of Cups; we are emotionally reborn. Visit a pool, lake, river, or ocean. The imagination can be stronger than usual with this new moon. Creativity is heightened, and artists and musicians have breakthroughs. Time to start new projects! With the sensitive Cancer Moon, choose your words wisely. Moon in Cancer tends to emphasize home life and family, so enjoy those who move with you through life, including your pets. Also, this is a great date night, just don’t overshare.
Saturday, July 10th: Moon is void-of-course in Cancer all day, until entering Leo at 5:21pm. Walk carefully around people’s feelings. A void Moon in Cancer can be emotionally tricky, so practice restraint. This is a day of healing, rest, reflection and food. Also today, Venus squares Chiron in Aries, which can give creative people firey inspiration.
Sunday, July 11th: Moon in Leo opposes Saturn and squares Uranus, so we are emotionally integrating the events of last week. Also, Mercury enters uncertain, insecure and emotional Cancer for the next three weeks, bringing the need for understanding and meaning to our conversations. The Messenger doesn’t like being bogged down in emotions, so use Mercury in Cancer to access the power of imagination.
*When sperm whales need a nap, they take a deep breath, dive down about 45 feet and arrange themselves into perfectly-level, vertical patterns. They sleep sound and still for up to two hours at a time between breaths, in pods of 5 or 6 whales, presumably for protection. No one knew whales slept vertically until a 2008 study documented the behavior. And no one captured really good photography of it in the wild until 2017. French photographer Stephane Granzotto was documenting sperm whales in the Mediterranean for his book on the creatures when he came across these sleeping whales.
